In one way January was a disappointing month; weather conditions meant that only three of the five planned walks could take place. Even the New Year’s Day walk had to be rescheduled to January 2nd. On the other hand, those three walks were, perhaps, more eagerly anticipated after previous disappointments and, with good weather, even bright sunshine, were all the more enjoyable.
Our rescheduled 'New Year’s Day' walk with Alun explored the hills above Barmouth, using some familiar paths and some less familiar. Even the start of the walk along the prom was exciting, as huge waves stirred up by the previous day’s wind broke over the path! January 16th was a magical day of glorious sunshine and saw us with Rosie on a circuit from Criccieth via Llanystumdwy and the Afon Dwyfor. Early snowdrops and crocuses reminded us that spring will come eventually. Finally, on the 21st, Liz took the group on the Volcano Walk in Coed y Brenin, a fascinating tour through the geological history of the area.
