January 2026

January’s weather is not always conducive to getting out and about so it’s good to be able to report that  five group walks took place during the month. We started with Jacky on New Year’s Day with a relatively modest route exploring woods and fields near Dolgellau. This was followed on a really cold day when Rita led us on an adventurous but enjoyable walk up on to the Diffwys Ridge where there was lying snow and strong, bitter wind. We expected rain on Henry’s interesting route above and alongside the Mawddach, but luckily it remained mostly dry. A week later, Gill (R) stepped in at short notice with a walk to the ruined Pantyspydded in the hills above Machynlleth. Finally, we were blessed with glorious sunshine all day (though lots of mud and water) for a varied walk (with Jacky again) around Brithdir.

Many thanks to this month's photographers. We’re always keen to have photos from our walks. If you have any to share with us, please email the programme secretary via the “Contact Us” page and we’ll let you know how to send them.
