As the summer approaches and there are more hours of daylight to enjoy our walks, we tend to stray a bit further afield, often beyond our Meirionnydd patch. Of our May walks, just one was well and truly in Meirionnydd; one was on the boundary with Denbighshire; one just within Caernarfonshire; and one well to the south in Powys. It was good to experience some different areas, as well as returning to an old favourite.
The month started with Jacky’s linear walk from Sarnau to the National Whitewater Centre near Bala, visiting the modest tops of Foel Goch and Garnedd Fawr. This was followed by Alun’s route to the Source of the Severn and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli, with a mix of well-made paths and rough grassland. Adrian’s mountain walk took in three tops near Beddgelert, Moel Lefn, Moel yr Ogof and, the highest (and toughest), Moel Hebog. Finally we had Rosie’s walk in lovely, quiet countryside near Trawsfynydd, visiting the Roman site of Tomen y Mur.
