As it happens, four of our walks in October were clustered in the southern part of the Meirionnydd area. Early in the month Henry led us on a ramble from the Coed y Brenin Ty’n-y-Groes car park, including visits to the old copper mines and the Mynydd Pen-rhôs viewpoint. Later in the month, Jacky had to abandon plans to climb up to Waun Oer in the Dyfi Hills because of gale-force winds and offered instead a lower level route crossing the common land of Tir Stent near Dolgellau. And Liz led two different routes from Llanelltyd, one heading north towards Ganllwyd and the other, on the afternoon of the group AGM, through woodland and forest above the village. In between, two walks further north: Lyndsay and a few brave souls walked from Gellilydan (no photos because of the rain) and Carol took us on an interesting route above Garreg/Llanfrothen, passing the historic house of Gwenllian a’r Wern. As for the weather – sometimes wet, sometimes windy and just occasionally quite reasonable. Par for the course!
